The department specialises in delivering various treatment modalities like amalgam restorations, composite restorations, metal and ceramic inlays and onlays.It also caters to the esthetic needs of the patients by incorporating treatment modalities like laminates, veneers, digital dentistry and smile designing. The department has a holistic approach towards pain management and ensures relief by rendering emergency and immediate treatment services.
The students are trained to develop expertise in patient management and clinical skills which leads to the overall growth and development of the undergraduates and postgraduates. The department plays a pivotal role in nurturing the budding students from their preclinical and clinical classes and inspires them to be in touch with cutting edge technologies of global standards. The department also fulfils its social duties by conducting awareness programmes and participating in treatment camps.
The department is active in participating in various events at national and international level which is evident from the laurels that the students have achieved in the form of best paper, poster and clinical videos. The department takes pride in hosting two national events in this prestigious institute ,i.e., the IACDE Zone 1 National PG Conference 2019 and 34th IACDE National Endodontic Conference 2019with ACE(Aesthetic, Conservative and Endodontics) being the theme of the conference keeping in mind the current trends globally.

DIGITAL SMILE DESIGNING 2018
Owing to the current demands for esthetics and the ever-growing technology present today in the field of dentistry, a Digital Smile Designing workshop (lecture and hands-on) was conducted by the Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics by Dr. B Mohan on 1st February 2018. The workshop was conducted in two sessions to devise comprehensive treatment plan for esthetic procedure, emphasize on principles of Digital smile designing and interactive discussion on cases of esthetic irregularity. Morning session was addressed by Dr. B. Mohan (Chennai) who introduced the principles of digital dentistry and concepts of smile designing to the participants followed by a second hands-on session which included digital smile designing on individual laptops with the Powerpoint software of DSD. Participants went home with increased knowledge about advances in digital dentistry imparted by the reputed speakers along with a hands-on course under the able guidance of the teaching faculty.
Endoxcellence Rotary Endodontic workshop 2018
Rotary endodontics is one of the most valuable advances in the field of endodontics and the need of the hour. Thus, a workshop was conducted on 23rd January-24th January, 2018 by Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics at G.D Pol Foundation Y.M.T Dental College.
The workshop was organized for two days over four sessions. The first session was addressed by Dr. Vibha Hegde, Professor and H.O.D of the Department who through her immense knowledge strengthened the foundation of Basic endodontics for everyone. The second session was conducted by Dr. Mrunalini Vaidya, Professor, and was dedicated to understanding the principle of cleaning and shaping as well as the importance of 3-D obturation.
On Day 2, the third session was started by demonstration of Rotary instruments in extracted teeth by the teaching faculty of the department, followed by the fourth session of hands-on activities.
The workshop concluded with the participants gaining knowledge and enhancing their skills in basic endodontics.
Elocution competition
An elocution competition was held for celebration of Cons Endo day which is on 5 march 2019
The participants were given a common topic ‘ WHAT IF I WERE AN ENDODONTIST ‘ and were encouraged to take up Endodontics as a specialty and were introduced to the various aspects of it.

Minimally Invasive Endodontics (Lecture & hands on) workshop
As conservative dentists, we aim to be minimally invasive and preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible. Thus, a workshop was organized on Minimally Invasive Endodontics on 20th august 2019 with an aim to make the participants understand the concept of Minimally Invasive Endodontics.
Questions like what is minimally invasive endodontics and its practical applications were raised, realization of the importance of conservation of hard tissues of teeth was done and the importance of peri-cervical dentin was highlighted.
The morning session of the workshop started with introduction to minimally invasive endodontics by Dr.Vibha Hegde followed by a session dedicated to the principles of Minimally Invasive Dentistry, its clinical applications and protocols. This session was addressed by our eminent guest speaker, Dr. Esha Parikh.
The final session comprised of an interactive discussion between the participants and our guest speaker. Several questions were addressed regarding the difference between traditional, conservative and ultra conservative approach towards endodontics, role of magnification in MIE and protocol for surgical endodontics.
The participants went home with a take away message stating the importance of conservation of tooth structure and different techniques to achieve the same.
Pre-conference Courses held at YMT Dental College.
Preconference courses were conducted as a part of 34th IACDE National Conference, Navi Mumbai,2019. It encompassed topics in all three fields; aesthetics, Conservative dentistry and endodontics. The college was privileged to have world known DCI members and international speakers like Dr.Filipo Cardinali, Dr Jack Ringer and Dr. Saesha Mistry to share their knowledge and experience with the students. An overwhelming response was received where the students showed immense enthusiasm and imbibed knowledge about the basics of the observed specialty.

34th IACDE 2019 National Endodontic Conference (29thnov to 1stdec)
Navi-Mumbai witnessed an eventful four days of two major events of the IACDE, the second-best zonal conference 2019 and 34th IACDE 2019 National Conference after 14 yrs in the state of Maharashtra. The conference was held from 29th November to 1st December 2019 at CIDCO Convention and Exhibition center, Navi-Mumbai.
The event saw a huge participation of all the post graduate students of the western zone as well as the delegates from all across the country to successfully deliver their poster and paper presentation. A large number of traders and exhibitors also participated in the Conference trade fair.
With the theme of the Conference, is to Excel, Aesthetics, Conservative and Endodontics – the most important triad of dentistry, the scientific event proved to be an extravaganza of the most recent technological advances in the field of micro restorative dentistry, microsurgical endodontics and digital smile design with emphasis on workshop, live lecture and meticulously curated pre-conference courses by an array of international and national speakers.
The conference was graced by the presence of Dr. Dibyendu Mazumdar (DCI President), Dr. Bharat Shetty (DCI Vice-President), Miss Ameesha Patel (Guest of honor) and IACDE office bearers Dr. Girish Parmar, Dr. B Mohan, Dr. P. Karunakar.
The occasion was also graced by the dignitaries of our specialty, the DCI MUHS. This benchmark conference under the leadership of organizing secretary Dr. Vibha Hegde and her efficient team raised the standard of excellence.
Competitions for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Cons-endo week was commemorated during the first week of march. Various activities like best amalgam & composite competition, DENTALK (elocution competition), pain relief program & patient education drive were conducted by the department under the guidance of Dr Vibha Hegde for undergraduates, postgraduate and fellowship students as well as faculty who benefited immensely from the program.
Multidisciplinary event
Dentistry when approached from a multidisciplinary point of view, by coordinated, coherent and simultaneous inputs from specialists of all branches will favor the achievement of satisfactory results, reducing complications and number of visits for the patient. It makes a comprehensive approach to patient’s health needs from a holistic point of view.
Thus an event called D9 conclave was organized on 13th-14th March 2020 to discuss about academic curriculum where all the dental specialties came together represented by the respective presidents and secretaries
Webinar Lecture Series by Dr. Yogesh Sahu & Dr. Aarti Bohora
An online webinar was conducted by the Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics on the topics “Negotiating the Bending” and” Management Of Deep Splits” by Dr. Yogesh Sahu and Dr. Aarti Bohora, respectively.
Postgraduate orientation programme
For the new batch of students who joined the postgraduate programme, the first and the foremost event is the orientation programme the students meet the faculty members not only from the specialty which the student is undertaking but also the other dental specialties, respected dean and above all the freshers who have joined the college. During this event, various faculty members including respective dean addressed the students to explain them the essence of the postgraduate programme, the importance of publications as well as about the institute, its rich past, its academic accolades achieved and the infrastructure at the institute. This makes all the students feel confident and comfortable.
The esteemed head of the department of Conservative dentistry and Endodontics, Dr.Vibha Hegde was invited as a speaker for the international trade exhibition meet held in September 2020. It is one of a kind of platform that reflects the strength of the industry and showcases the preparedness to open up effectively. Various speakers spoke on this platform. Keeping the attendees up to date about various advances in this field.
Rotary Endodontics Workshop for interns & post graduate students.
The Indian Association of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics has earmarked March 5th as Cons Endo Day throughout the India to raise awareness among the public regarding the specialty. To mark this event, Cons-Endo week was celebrated in Y.M.T Dental College and Hospital in the first week of March. It comprised of various activities for both the undergraduate and the postgraduate students. A patient education drive was conducted with the aim of motivating the masses and to instill a sense of good oral hygiene in them. To conclude the enigmatic week, a workshop and Hands-on programme on " Rotary Endodontics" was conducted under the guidance of the Head of Department and President of IACDE Dr. Vibha Hegde and other staffs of the department on 10th of March 2021 to refine the skills of our students in the same
With the aim of improving the patient care and effective shaping and cleaning of the root canal all the interns, 1st year postgraduates, fellowship students and faculties of the department were engaged earnestly in the workshop with great enthusiasm and all of them went back with an enriching experience.

Maharashtra Association of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics in Association with IACDE under the able guidance of Dr.Vibha Hegde, conducted a scientific CDE program “Clinicak Skills Update “ for all the budding endodontists and prcactioners on the 12th October 2021. The first speaker, Dr.Harshwardhan Arya addressed us on the topic “ Conservative bonded indirect posterior restorations – the new normal”. He enlightened the participants on the latest advances and techniques of restoring posterior teeth and urged everyone to explore the same.
The next guest lecturer , Dr.Sanket Sheth, guided our students on various problem solving tips and tricks in Endodontics. He threw light on how to tackle day-to-day problems encountered by the practitioners during endodontic procedures. The event brought an opportunity for the participants to acquire treasure of knowledge form the comfort of their computer screens from speakers with enormous experience and expertise.
Rotary Endodontics 2022” for interns & post graduate students.
On 1st of February 2022, Department of Conservative Dentistry &Endodontics organized the annual rotary endodontic workshop which focused on enhancing clinical skills of the students along with imparting knowledge on case selection, diagnosis, advances in cleaning & shaping and obturation techniques.
The scientific session was open to all and 35 students enrolled for hands-on workshop. The scientific sessions were very interactive and informative. The keynote speakers were Dr. Vibha Hegde Ma’am, Dr. Ashwin Jain and Dr.Anil Ricchawal. They covered all major aspects of basic and advance concepts in the field of endodontics. The session was followed by demonstration and hands-on with high emphasis on imparting practical knowledge tips and tricks for managing endodontic cases.
The program received an extremely positive feedback from the participants and the sessions proved to benefit the students in their day to day clinical practice.
At the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, we strive to achieve overall development of the students from both academic and clinical point of view. Students are oriented to basic skills as well as state of art equipment namely, endodontics, microsurgical as well as basic armamentarium and equipments. Dental operating microscope section, advanced cosmetic, esthetic and full mouth rehabilitation, bleaching and veneers, smile designing are the services provided by the Department to the patients. It is important to match up to global standards. On academic front , Department has lot of laurels credited to various basic rotary workshops and advanced Post Graduate training program enabling students and staff to keep in pace with current research from time to time . It is our Endeavour to provide best possible education and managerial skills to undergraduates and post graduates and quality treatment to the patients. “Excellence is not a destination; it’s a continuous journey that never ends”
The department infrastructure consists of fully equipped undergraduate, intern and post graduate clinics, preclinical phantom head laboratory, 2 seminar rooms, radiography rooms one in the intern’s section and one in the post graduate section, sterilization areas and faculty lounge. Preclinical training with plaster models and typhodont is provided to familiarize the students with restorative procedures. A state-of-the-art phantom head lab with individual micro motor unit serves for the practical sessions Third and final year students are trained in the clinical setting. Initially simple restorative procedures and later more complex procedures are handled by the students under the able guidance of the faculty. Interns independently handle complex restorative procedures and basic endodontic procedures.
Department also trains post graduate students in the discipline of conservative dentistry and endodontics. The infrastructure provided is state of the art and the trainees gain competence in providing wide range of comprehensive restorative endodontic procedures including surgical interventions. The department also conducts comprehensive fellowship programs for dental graduates to hone their skills in the specialty of conservative dentistry and endodontics
